Choose IELTS
Special educational needs
The British Council cares about candidates with special educational needs, with fairness to all candidates regardless of first language, gender, ethnicity, nationality or lifestyle.
The IELTS test has been designed to be a fair test. Your English language ability will be assessed objectively, regardless of any disability that you may have.
IELTS test locations can make adjustments to facilitate the delivery of the test for candidates with special educational needs.
For example, we can
- provide the test in Braille
- arrange for voice-activated software to be used in the writing test
- modify the listening test for those with hearing difficulties
- provide extra time for people with specific learning difficulties
When you book an IELTS test with the British Council you can discuss your needs and make arrangements with the test centre direct. Whatever you need we will do our best to help you succeed.
