IELTS FOR UK VISAS AND IMMIGRATION

The UK government recently announced important changes to Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) for visa purposes. Both IELTS and the new IELTS Life Skills test have been approved for UK visas that require proof of English language level and will be offered in more than 100 authorised locations throughout the world. IELTS Life Skills is a new test for people who need to prove their Speaking and Listening skills at A1 or B1 level on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

IELTS is the world’s most popular test for higher education and global migration, with over 2.5 million tests taken last year.

It is accepted by over 9000 organisations worldwide and assesses all four language skills – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

IELTS for UKVI

If you need to prove your English language level for a UK visa application, you may need to take your IELTS test at a centre which has been specifically authorised by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

IELTS will have over 100 locations accredited for testing for UKVI purposes, including 10 locations in the UK.

IELTS Life Skills

The new IELTS Life Skills test has been introduced for UK visa applications where lower levels of English language are required.

IELTS Life Skills can only be taken at authorised centres accredited by UK Visa and Immigration and will test Speaking and Listening skills.
