What is Writing on Paper?
In selected countries, Writing on Paper is available with our IELTS on computer test. If writing feels more natural than typing, Writing on Paper means you can complete the Writing component of the test by hand.
During the test, you will sit at a computer desk and work your way through the Listening, Reading sections of the test on computer. When you come to the Writing section, you will see your tasks on screen, but you will be provided with an answer sheet and a pen to complete your responses.
Writing on Paper is not available for IELTS for UKVI tests.

IELTS Writing on paper: FAQs
The IELTS Writing test takes 60 minutes, whether you complete it on computer or use the Writing on Paper option where available. The British Council no longer offers IELTS as a fully paper-based test. However, in selected countries, you can choose Writing on Paper as part of IELTS on computer, allowing you to handwrite your answers while completing the other test components on computer.
If you need more space to complete your answer, put your hand up and an invigilator will provide you with additional answer sheets.
No. If you choose the Writing on Paper option, you will be provided with an IELTS Writing Answer Sheet and a pen to complete the Writing component.
