Hebei University

The university was originally founded as Tianjin Technology and Business University in 1921, located at No.141, Machang Road, Tianjin. It was renamed as Tianjin Technology and Business College in 1933 due to its small scale. In 1948, it was registered as Jingu University with 10 departments of 3 colleges. In 1951, the university was approved by the Central People’s Government to be a public one, which ushered in a new era under the leadership of Tianjin Municipal Government and founded 3 colleges and 13 departments. The Technology Department of Jingu University was incorporated into Tianjin University, while the Finance and Economics Department into Nankai University. Besides, Tianjin Normal College was established on the basis of Normal Educational Department, which continues the history of Hebei University. Its size was increased from 6 to 9 departments in a few years. In 1958, it expanded into Tianjin Normal University, then being identified as one of five key universities in the province. In 1960, this university was upgraded to a comprehensive one and received the name of Hebei University, which was relocated in 1970 from Tianjin to a well-known historical and cultural city--Baoding in Hebei Province.
