Mapping English-taught Programmes - Worldwide

Launched in partnership with Studyportals, the "Mapping English-taught Programmes Worldwide" showcases the growth of English-taught programmes outside the "Big Four" study destinations - the UK, USA, Australia and Canada.

Following our first report published in 2021, the latest report explores the changes in the higher education landscape as we continue to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Key findings:

  • Out of 183,000 on-campus Bachelor's and Master's English-taught programmes worldwide, 78% continue to be offered by the Big Four study destinations: the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada.
  • Compared to 2019, the number of on-campus English-taught programmes offered outside the Big Four has grown by 48%
  • Outside of the "Big Four", the European Higher Education Area offers the largest supply of English programmes, followed by East Asia, the Chinese Region and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Mapping English-taught Programmes - Europe

European countries are offering an increased number of courses in English, providing students with more choices in study destination across the region.

Key findings

  • The majority of countries provide on on-campus, rather then online, programmes in English
  • Republic of Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands are the top providers of on-campus English programmes
  • The number of online Bachelor's and Master's programmes have risen 67.3% since 2021
