Tatung Institute of Technology was formally established in 1956 and began to offer two-year college programs. Dr. T. S. Lin was then appointed as President of the school. The Institute was accredited as a four-year institute of technology in 1963, began to offer master's programs in 1976 and doctoral programs in 1982 and was renamed Tatung University in 1999. President Lin passed away in 2006, and Dr. Jiann-Kuo Wu was elected as President of the University. Currently, the University is composed of 3 colleges, including Engineering, Electrical and Information Engineering, and Management and Design, 10 departments, 12 master's programs, and 11 Ph.D. programs. The number of student enrollment now stands at 4200, with 30% pursuing graduate studies.
