Our free weekly IELTS webinars are conducted by highly-qualified and experienced IELTS teachers and teacher trainers. They give you the opportunity to learn and practise skills and techniques that you can immediately use in your IELTS preparation and in the test itself.

The webinars are interactive and you will be invited to participate throughout by answering polls and responding to the presenter’s questions as well as having the opportunity to ask the team any questions you have about preparing for IELTS.

Please make sure you:

  • Log in up to 15 minutes before the webinar is due to start so that you can check you have logged in correctly and that your sound system is working. You may need to download the Zoom App if you have not used this platform before.
  • Close all other windows etc. on your device while attending to try to avoid any breakdown in connection.
  • Log in using your full name.

How do I join the webinar?

You can join the webinar by clicking the meeting link in the email you receive after registration, or by going to zoom.us/join and entering the meeting ID you received in the same email.

How can I get updates and alerts on webinars?

You can sign up to receive regular alerts about our webinars when you register for our webinars here.

If I cannot attend the live webinar, can I watch it afterwards?

If you have registered but then you cannot attend, you will still receive an email with a link to the webinar in 3 working days.

Can I record the webinar?

No. You do not need to record the webinar. The meeting is recorded, and you will be sent an email with a link to the recording within 3 working days.

During the webinar

Will other people be able to see and hear me?

No. All videos and microphones, apart from the presenter’s, are automatically disabled for the duration of the webinar.

I can’t see the presenter. What should I do?

These webinars are audio only, not video, so no one can see the presenter.

I can’t hear the presenter. What should I do?

There are 3 possible solutions:

  1. Make sure you have ‘Join Audio’ turned on. Hover over the bottom of your Zoom meeting screen so that you can see the tool bar. If you can see an icon labelled ‘Join Audio’, this means you have not yet connected your audio. Click on the icon and choose either Computer Audio or Phone Call depending on the device you are using.
  2. Check the audio controls on your computer or phone. Make sure they are turned on and the volume is turned up.
  3. Sometimes logging out of the webinar and then re-joining solves the problem.

What is the difference between the Chat Box and Q&A?

The Chat Box is the area where you can introduce yourself, give feedback, communicate with the presenter and answer their questions. The Q&A is the area where you can ask any more general questions about IELTS and one of the team members will answer you. Unfortunately, the presenter cannot see the Q&A while presenting, so please use the Chat Box to communicate with them.

Why can’t I see other participants’ answers in the Chat Box?

The number of attendees to our webinars is very high. Thus, it is important to restrict the number of people able to use the chat in order to maintain quality for all attendees, and to avoid any technical issues during the webinar.

Why can’t I see the poll questions?

Some systems do not accept polls. Please listen to the presenter and the team carefully as they will read the poll questions out and you can type your answer in the Chat Box.

After the webinar

Where can I access previous webinars?

Our webinars are not saved anywhere so, unfortunately, there is no access to them. If you miss one or more of our webinars, don’t worry as all the webinars are repeated. Please check our schedule here to register for the webinars you want.

How can I receive the slides from the webinar?

We will send you an email with the link to the recording of the webinar within 3 working days.

I have received an email but cannot open the link, it requires a password. What should I do?

For any technical issues, please contact our team by emailing ielts.marketing@britishcouncil.org.

I haven’t received the link to the Study Pack? What should I do?

If you have already registered for the Study Pack, you may find the link to this in your junk or spam folders. Once you have checked these, please contact ielts.marketing@britishcouncil.org for further help.

The presenter didn’t answer my question? Who else can I ask?

With so many attendees at each webinar, it’s not always possible to answer everyone’s question. One place to ask your questions is our Take IELTS Official Facebook page in one of our regular ‘Ask the Expert’ sessions.

Do I get a certificate for attending the webinar?

No. These webinars are for your information and to help you prepare for the test. We do not issue certificates for attendance at webinars.

If I register for one webinar, am I automatically registered for them all?

No. You need to sign up for each individual webinar so please keep coming back to this page to check the webinar schedule and sign up for each webinar you are interested in attending. Even if you’re not able to attend, this ensures that you will be sent the link to the webinar recording.

The presenter mentioned a number of resources, do you have the links for these?
